Dodge City Named a 2026 Top Western Town by True West Magazine
By Dodge City CVB on December 10, 2025
Known worldwide as the “Queen of the Cowtowns,” Dodge City remains one of the most iconic names in Western history, born on the Santa Fe Trail and shaped by buffalo hunters, trail-driving cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws whose stories still define its frontier spirit. That legacy has earned Dodge City the #6 spot in True West Magazine’s 2026 “Top 10 Western Towns.” Visitors can explore immersive exhibits, restored buildings, and other historic and preserved sites—all maintained to keep Dodge City’s early story alive.
“Our partners play a vital role in creating rich, memorable experiences that truly capture the spirit of Dodge City,” said Megan Welsh, director of the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Whether honoring real-life legends like Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson or celebrating the beloved characters of Gunsmoke, their commitment to preserving and sharing our history continues to draw thousands of visitors to our community each year.”
“Dodge City is one of the legendary names of the Old West,” says True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell. “The town has done an outstanding job preserving its history, from Boot Hill Museum to the historic depot to the stories of the lawmen who helped tame the streets. Dodge City remains a true Western destination.”
Additionally, Dodge City has been named “Best Town for Historic Entertainment” and “Best Wild West Show” and will be featured, with the other honorees, in the Jan/Feb 2026 issue of True West, available on January 13, 2026. This issue marks the 20th year True West has presented this annual award.
