Congratulations to Hugo Hernandez — Kansas Department of Commerce “To the Stars” Regional Nonprofit Winner!

We are beyond proud to share some thrilling news: Hugo Hernandez, our dedicated Main Street Director, has been named the Regional Nonprofit Winner in the Kansas Department of Commerce’s To the Stars: Kansas Business Awards in the Healthcare/Nonprofit category.

This is no small feat. It is a recognition of the heart, grit, and vision Hugo brings every day to downtown Dodge City through Dodge City Main Street.

The To the Stars Awards, hosted by the Kansas Department of Commerce, highlight businesses and organizations across Kansas that make outstanding contributions to their communities.

There are multiple categories, including Agribusiness, Innovation, Main Street Momentum, Retail/Service, and Healthcare/Nonprofit. The Healthcare/Nonprofit category honors organizations whose services deeply impact their communities, going above and beyond to serve those in need.

Hugo’s recognition as a regional winner in this category underscores that the work happening right here in downtown Dodge City is shining at the state level.

Many of us already know Hugo as a familiar, committed presence in our community, but his story and leadership make this achievement especially meaningful. Hugo grew up right here in Dodge City, bringing a deep personal connection to the place he now helps lead. In August 2024, he stepped into the role of Director of Main Street Dodge City, a nonprofit under the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation, combining his passion for community with his leadership skills.

“I’m truly honored that Main Street Dodge City was recognized,” said Hugo Hernandez. “Thank you to our incredible Board of Directors for their dedication, to Joann Knight for her invaluable guidance, and to the downtown businesses who are the heartbeat of Main Street Dodge City. Their creativity and hard work keep our district thriving.”

This recognition brings visibility, pride, and momentum. It tells everyone in Kansas that our downtown work matters. It strengthens our case for future partnerships, grants, and creative initiatives. It also reminds us that even small communities can shine in statewide arenas when passion and commitment lead the way.
