Community Housing Association of Dodge City Hosts Open House to Celebrate Student-Built Duplex
On Thursday, May 8, community members, partners, and local leaders gathered at 1304 Military Avenue for an open house and hamburger feed, celebrating the newest home built by students in Dodge City Community College’s (DCCC) Building Construction Technology Program. The duplex, constructed as part of the 2024–2025 academic year project, was made possible through a partnership with the Community Housing Association of Dodge City (CHAD).
The event welcomed more than 100 attendees who enjoyed a complimentary hamburger lunch, sponsored by Black Hills Energy, toured the new home, and learned about the program’s impact on workforce development and affordable housing in Dodge City.
“This project is more than a house—it’s an investment in our students and our community,” said Mollea Lightner, Assistant Director of the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation. “This partnership builds quality affordable homes, trains our future workforce, and cleans up older neighborhoods.”
The duplex is the latest in a series of builds led by DCCC students under the guidance of experienced instructors. The program provides technical education and career pathways while producing affordable homes for local families.
The home will be listed for sale to qualifying families this summer.
