Development Corporation Highlights Community Growth and Major Projects at Rotary Club Presentation

Assistant Director Mollea Lightner recently provided members of the Dodge City Rotary Club with an update on the many projects and initiatives underway through the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation and its partner organizations.

Lightner shared how the Development Corporation’s mission is to promote the growth and development of existing businesses while aggressively pursuing new opportunities that strengthen the economic vitality of Dodge City, Ford County, and the surrounding region. The organization operates as a membership-driven partnership between local governments, businesses, and community leaders, with an 80-member Board of Directors guiding its efforts.

Among the highlights presented were several major housing developments currently underway, including United Village, Iron Flats II, Rodeo Hills II, Milstock Addition, and the 15th Street Development. These projects are helping address the community’s growing housing needs while supporting workforce recruitment and retention.

Lightner also highlighted the work of the Community Housing Association of Dodge City (CHAD), which continues to expand housing opportunities through rehabilitation projects, homebuyer education, community improvement programs, and the construction of new housing units.

Childcare remains a critical focus area for the organization. Construction continues on the Full Circle Childcare Center, a transformational project that will significantly expand childcare capacity in Ford County. Additional efforts include maintaining a childcare provider directory and waitlist resources, supporting local providers, and launching a new website dedicated to childcare services and information.

The presentation also featured updates on several exciting tourism and hospitality projects. The Motorsports Museum is scheduled to open in April 2028 and will celebrate Dodge City’s rich motorsports heritage while attracting visitors from across the region. Additionally, The Marshall, an Outset Collection by Hilton property, is expected to open in early 2028, further enhancing local lodging and tourism opportunities.

Retail recruitment efforts continue to focus on the proposed Frontier District Shopping Center, expansion of the STAR Bond District, and attracting new retail and entertainment options to the community. These efforts are supported through partnerships with industry experts and participation in major retail recruitment events such as the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) convention.

Industrial recruitment remains a priority as well. The Development Corporation continues to work closely with Team Kansas, the Site Location Partnership, SelectUSA, and the Site Selectors Guild to promote Dodge City and Ford County as a premier location for business investment and expansion.

Throughout the presentation, Lightner emphasized the importance of partnerships, collaboration, and community support in driving progress. From housing and childcare to tourism, retail, and industrial development, these projects represent continued investment in the future of Dodge City and Ford County and demonstrate the community’s commitment to growth and opportunity.
