CHAD Scholarship Presentation

On, November 16th, 2022, the Community Housing Association of Dodge City (CHAD) presented eight scholarships to students in the Building Construction Technology class. Fall 2022 is the fifth year CHAD presented students with scholarships. Students receiving scholarships are David Garcia, Juan Castro, Alexis Banuelos, Landon Elling, Christian Canales Canales, Jesus Gamon Mata, Mario Chacon, and Cuber Marino. The CHAD Board of Directors President, Brian Delzeit, presented the scholarships to the students.

The Dodge City Community College Building Construction Technology Program and CHAD partner to build new moderate-income housing units every year. This partnership benefits the students, CHAD and the community. CHAD provides the lot and materials for the students to build a home, allowing the students to gain knowledge in their trade. Having the students provide the labor is cost efficient, resulting in a new construction in the affordable market range. This partnership between CHAD and DCCC is a huge success for both the student’s development and the community

This year, we are building a single-family house at 600 Avenue N. The house will contain 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a one car garage. The students began construction in October and will finish in May 2023. The students build the house from the ground up, learning all aspects of construction. We partner with local businesses where we need licensed contractors for the concrete, HVAC, electrical and plumbing. “We are lucky to have such great contractors in Dodge City who are willing to teach the students their trade while providing their service” said Mollea Wainscott, Assistant Director for the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation. “It’s beneficial to the students to learn the licensed trades along with the general construction.”

This partnership allows the Community Housing Association of Dodge City to accomplish three things; building additional housing units, training our future workforce and cleaning up blighted neighborhoods. This is the sixth year that CHAD and the college have partnered together to build new housing.
